RIOT - Army Of One gets a 9/10 rating from Rock Total

When this copy of the last work of the band of the God Mark Reale arrived at the writing, RIOT, after more than three years from magnificent " Through The Storm" , my eyes were abrieron as plates and I began to secrete saliva what hungry one after days of fasting. One of my favorite bands for all time, with discazos like " Narita" , " Thundersteel" (del that or I left good account in the section of classic) or " Inishmore" to put examples of different stages from the group, it returned finally with a disc that already has been to engraving a time, but that you march due to it DiMeo to THE LIZARDS it had been delayed time and time again.

In one interview that a friend did to him kill a time to Reale, when speaking of this new work, " Army Of One" , the teacher of the six cords commented that he had doubts on the form to publish it. Tirelli was the new vocalist, but the disc already was recorded with DiMeo and it did not want to do an ugly one rewriting the voices to him with another person who been had not implied in the compositional process of " Army Of One". It seems that finally Reale has been decided to remove the disc as it was conceived at first, leaving first in Japan throughout the summer, and finally in the heat of Autumn in Europe. And thank heavens has done that it, because the result is an excellent disc that reunites elements that a long time ago did not appear in RIOT, at the same time as it maintains the most melodic and reflective footpath of magnificent " Through The Storm". The production, without being magnificent, secures the objective that it sounds natural, organic and that does not lose force at any moment.

It is as if we returned to the past, when the discs were recorded as if concerts it was. But it is not by the sound reason why it emphasizes " Army Of One" (that also), but by two fundamental elements: the melodies that remove Reale from the sleeve, and a work of really impressive DiMeo. " Army Of One" it is a vehicle of lucimiento for a very versatile singer who has been able to give to RIOT sufficient the Hard point, without losing the force of long ago and with a voice that in the most touching parts clears the magic and in hardest, she makes us remember the times of " Thundersteel". A magnificent, only even work by the masters of Reale in the single ones and the form to compose intimist and near subjects, at the same time as plenty of force. A disc that, at least, equals " Through The Storm" and in some subjects it surpasses until it, and del that I am wishing to see subjects in direct.

The twelve compositions of the work happen through all the attitudes. But doubt does not fit that most surprising is own " Army Of One". You imagine " Thundersteel" composed at present and with the voice of DiMeo? , because that is " Army Of One" a speedico, full subject of force, with an excellent vocal line, that does not arrive at the acute ones from Tony Moore (at which never DiMeo arrived), but that in any case supposes most powerful than has composed RIOT in years. I already return to salivar to only think that I will be able to listen to it in direct sometimes, that I hope that it is not very behind schedule. But the best thing of everything is than, although in the rest of the disc as soon as it becomes to repeat this waste of muzzle energy, the work does not decay at any moment doing use of the elements that have made famous to RIOT since DiMeo entered, and perfectly mixing their air to RAINBOW with the part more Hard Rockera of the last subjects made up of the American band in our century. Indeed in this wave, but with groove and a capacity to hook incredible, it continues the disc of the hand of " Knockin AT My Door" , with a really touching refrain where DiMeo leaves with its voice more Soul, and the keyboards help to recreate a very ochentero atmosphere.

Halfway between " Sons Of Society" and " Inishmore" , the means time of " Blinded" it returns to us to as much bring the magic of DiMeo in the adjusted refrain, like in the parts more heavies. The guitar of Reale and the exciting rythmical section with a Frank Gilchrist who really leaves, tile a very epic musical background that is what it makes me remember classic " Inishmore" , just by of guitar neoclassicist doubled including. Maintaining environment adjustment more Heavy in riffs of guitar, " One More Alibi" it supposes another culminating point, thanks to the choirs of the refrain that return to give to the Hard touch Rocker him who as much excites to me of the last works of RIOT. Enthusiasm that returns from the hand of " It All Falls Down" , where the guitars of Reale and Flyntz leave literally, with riffs really pegadizos, single incredible, simple but shining ones, and an air to RAINBOW that returns to glide on the head of the band. The Equator is reached with " Helpin Hand" , cruder than the previous one in which to guitars one talks about, but where the soul of DiMeo returns to fly of the hand of its voice more touching Soul and, reinforced by the guitar of Reale, that cries under its fingers and by hammond omnipresent that returns to give a ochentero air him that surrounds all the disc.

The second part of the disc abre with another one trallazo, " The Mystic" that it does that " Thundersteel" and riffs and ridden neoclassic of Blackmore comes to our head. If somebody thought that this disc was going to follow only touching and hardrockeros landlords, you cut as this they are the test that it was mistaken. This change returns abrir the prohibition to new cuts that perfectly mix the Heavy and the Hard ochentero Rock, as it is the case of " Still Live" , a subject that within its simplicity, obtains that our feet easily move to the rate of the pegadizos and rockers riffs of Flyntz and Reale. After an introduction that puts to us in situation in one night in the desert, " begins; Alive In The City" , another cut very characteristic by the guitars of RIOT, but with an air very Blues in the chords, and a line of under Pete Perez who remembers the importance to us of their presence in the band. Perhaps but he is " Shine" the culminating point of this second part of the CD. A quick, powerful subject, of riffs very heavies and double almost constant big drum, but with an interpretation of DiMeo that far from to elevate towards the acute ones, reduces tones, giving a cruder air to the subject. It is a subject where Reale leaves a little the general tonic its form to compose the guitars, including a quite peculiar section of cords in the final part of the subject, and even that carries out is taken off of its classic influences, the only supposing one of the attractiveness of " Army Of One". Finally, the finishing touch puts it, after beautiful instruments, " Stained Mirror" , where the melodies of Reale to " Narita" they share protagonism with the keyboards and the acoustics, dark " Darker Side Of Light" (and it is not because it says the title to it), whose riffs reduces their tonality enough, and the voice of DiMeo has a melancholic air that it has left nickel plate to the subject.

A great end in any case. With pardon by the expression, RIOT kicks the ass to more than a supposedly mythical band, that nevertheless has been decades living on rents. In the case of Mark Reale and company the verb of complying does not exist. Than thirty years giving more our ears with discs that never lower of the notable, even those of the less attractive stage of the group for my taste, when Rhett Forrester was in the band. And " Army Of One" it could not less be, supposing an excellent record return of a band that, lamentably, never will receive the laurels that deserve themselves. And it is that Reale and its band would have to ascend to the musical Mount Olympus, and not to stay oneself as a cult band, with following faithfuls, but little recognition. Injustice is the word that always comes to me at the top like association of ideas to RIOT. In any case, and leaving vindications of they fan sickly like which it subscribes to a side, RIOT follows in the breach of the quality, breach of which for years they have not been lowering, and that do that " Army Of One" he is highly recommendable to all those that they liked " Through The Storm" and that wants to recover some more classic sonoridades of the group. The delay was worth the trouble.
